Momma Whipped About Anything

When we got whippings, everybody had to get their own switch to get whipped with. One time Pearl showed us how to break the switches in lots of different places and stand them up in the corner. When Momma got the switch to whip us, each one would just crumple as she raised it up. That was such a stroke of genius that even Momma had to laugh. But that didn't get us out of a whipping. Momma strung a light up on a cord and made us go outside in the middle of the night a get another switch.
We all had our special rituals we performed when we got whipped. Pearl and Bobby were the most creative. Pearl always prayed "O Lordy, Lordy, Lordy!" Bobby used Momma as a merry go round. As she held his hand and whipped him, he ran around her in a circle with his feet never touching the floor.
Where was Daddy when all of this was going on? Probably somewhere laughing. He didn't do much whipping. Daddy only whipped us for lying. Momma whipped about anything!
