Umm, Waffles!
As story about Pearl Townes Felder and Jacqueline Townes McGee
As told by Jacqueline Townes McGee
Because of the age difference, Pearl was always like a second mother to me. I heard that she boycotted me for a few months when I was born. But as far back as i can remember, she has always been loving and supportive. When she got married, she would send for me so I wouldn't have to work as hard as everyone else.
When I visited John and Pearl in Cape Cod, Massachusetts one year, Pearl made waffles for us. It was the very first time I had eaten waffles. The were so good and I liked them so much. Pearl made it look so easy to make those waffles so I tried to make them for myself the next day. I didn't know how to cook anything and I completely destroyed the waffle iron. I thought I was in real trouble but Pearl didn't get mad or scream at me. She simply said "that's okay."
Waffles remain one of my favorite foods. But to this day, I cannot make waffles -- I go to IHOP!
