The birth record for Robbie Lee Williams Townes indicates that Amanda "Mandy" Mister Williams, mother of Walter Williams, performed the delivery.  Family lore says that Mandy delivered most of her grandchildren.  Although the source of Mandy's training is unknown, she evidently developed excellent skills in obstetrical care.  Often referred to as the "Doctor Woman", Mandy became the preferred midwife for many area families.

There is no birth certificate on file for Augustus Townes, Sr.  To date the earliest official record evidencing his age that has been found is the above transcript of a census report taken on April 15, 1910.   Spellings of the family's last name on various census reports include Townes, Towens, and Townsend.
